a kitchen-sink glyph app — where toys live before they leave the nest. not for sale, not for download, mostly just for me.
glypnik is a drawer, not a product. nine compartments now — four originals, four new toys from the v2.0 cabinet, and one alumnus that left the nest.
outer progress ring, inner pseudo-visualizer. long-press to scroll the track name through the matrix.
a single glyph that knows if it's raining. nine hand-drawn conditions. updates on the hour.
tap the glyph button — cycle wifi, bluetooth, flashlight, dnd. a 2x2 tile world on 25 leds.
a mini-game. cows wander the field, the saucer swoops, the beam fires. beep-boop-mooooo.
left the nest. now a standalone app. still shares glypnik's firebase so pairing works across both.
five matrix faces — plate, scanline, falling, glitch, pendulum. each carries its own fps and aesthetic. long-press flashes the date.
six ambient motifs — spiral, breathing rings, lissajous, moiré, rose, tide. four variants each. side-button morphs between them in 200ms.
live charging wattage stamped on the matrix, ring pulsing in time with power. fades 8s after the cable leaves. session log: peak, average, mAh, source.
a small shelf of odd instruments — slot machine, applause, distance signal, reactions, thinking of you. tune one in at a time, long-press the glyph button to trigger it.
three names, same drawer. each one a costume change — mascot first, then palette, then the palette won.
glyphbuddy, first. a catch-all utility — every glyph idea piled into one app before i knew which ones were keepers. it got crowded fast.
then glupo. i built the ufo abductor, fell for the cows and the beam, and leaned the whole app into alien kitsch. around the same time the 1950s palette landed — amber, chartreuse, coral, aqua — cream grounds, brown line-work, a whole mid-century mood.
after a while the aesthetic had outgrown the mascot. saucers were saying one thing; the palette and the type were saying another. so i gutted the ui and rebuilt around what the colors had been gesturing at all along — atomic age, orbital rings, starbursts, populuxe.
glypnik. glyph + -nik, the slavic suffix for "one who is of" — the h quietly dropped somewhere over the baltic. sputnik (1957) was "fellow traveler" — спутник, one who travels the path alongside. this one travels the glyph.
glypnik is the drawer's current callsign — a junk drawer for every glyph idea that didn't warrant its own app, and a few that eventually did.
it isn't listed, isn't signed, isn't supported. if a toy gets good enough, it moves out and gets its own page. everything else just hangs around keeping the wiring warm.
as of v2.0 the app finally dressed up to match these pages — bingsu palette, stamped controls, orbital watermarks, a uniform 4×2 cabinet. the website was a sketch for the app; the app caught up.
